At different stations, the students at the PZH discovered various things: At the helicopter challenge from the Institut für Fabrikanlagen und Logistik, they followed screen instructions to assemble a small helicopter, showing their speed and skill. At other stations, the students pressed shopping trolley chips, tried to beat the highscore with a particularly high feed rate, and examined tiny samples with a scanning electron microscope (SEM).
At the LZH, the students got to see what Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) is, how a laser-based x-ray machine helps to detect the content of a Kinder Surprise Egg before opening it, and how to cut or mark with the laser. They could try out how to guide a laser beam via a mirror, how to transmit music in the room using light and how to “bend” light with optical fibers.
