Benefits from clever site selection in metropolitan areas

IFA | High potential for work and employment, strong infrastructure and dense production networks: The advantages in metropolitan areas. Researchers are currently developing a trendsetting planning approach that allows companies to identify and use them for their own benefit.

The advantages for companies in metropolitan areas include an efficient infrastructure, dense production networks and the proximity to science and research. The site selection is one of the most important decisions to be made by a company. In cooperation with the Institute of Automotive Management and Industrial Production (AIP) of TU Braunschweig, the Institute of Production Systems and Logistics (IFA) of Leibniz Universität Hannover is doing research in the field of regional site planning in metropolitan areas.
The planning approach consists of two models: The evaluation model is the basis of comparison for alternative locations. The decision-making model helps companies to identify the development potential of each location and select the optimal site in consideration of the company’s requirements. In the future, the results achieved in the research project "MetroPlant" will support companies in the challenging task of regional location selection.
