Continued Changeability: 50 years of IFA

IFA | Since 1966, the Institute of Production Systems and Logistics (IFA) has been successfully conducting research on the production-related correlations between logistics, production processes and human resources. What has characterized the institute over the decades? And what are the future prospects?

The best of 50 years of IFA reveals treasures such as the changeability concept of factories or the throughput diagram for the modelling of production processes.
Professor Peter Nyhuis has known the institute since 1980, heading it since 2003. In his opinion, there are two key qualities that make IFA stand out among others. The first is consistency in content: “The special thing is that in substance not that much has changed over the years. The contents are still the same.“ The second key quality is the active team of research associates, virtually working autonomously and with great commitment. “We are maintaining an intense exchange of knowledge, supported by the institute’s flat organizational structure with full transparency.“
The future also looks favourable: “There is nothing more constant than change“, says Nyhuis, meaning new technologies as well as the challenges posed by demographic changes and the global climate targets. “We are standing for changeability.“
