Fiber composite materials for lightweight construction, glass and thin-film systems: Processing these materials with the laser is challenging. Dr.-Ing. Oliver Suttmann has been developing innovative technologies for ten years: First as a scientist and PhD candidate at the LZH, and since 2013 as Head of the Production and Systems Department. He has now received the WLT prize for his work, which is annually awarded for outstanding contributions in the field of applied laser research. The award is endowed with a prize money of 5000 euros.
Dr.-Ing. Oliver Suttmann studied mechanical engineering at the University of Rostock and at the Leibniz University Hannover, and completed his degree as a graduate engineer in 2007. In 2013, he completed his doctorate degree in the field of mechanical engineering at the Leibniz University Hannover. His supervisor was Prof. Dr.-Ing. Ludger Overmeyer. His dissertation was on the topic of „Laser processes for structuring metal, thin-film stress sensors“, for which he was awarded the Schaeffler Innovation Award.
