Tailor-made light: EXIST funding for LZH researchers

LZH | From a research project to a start-up company: The project OptoKomp of the Laser Zentrum Hannover e.V. (LZH) receives funding from the EXIST research transfer. Therewith, the team plans to found a start-up company that manufactures compact, glass-fiber based components for cutting-edge laser systems.

Be it medical research or industrial material processing: There is a high demand for powerful laser systems. At the same time, industrial companies and research institutes must keep their costs at a low level. Therefore, OptoKomp plans to deliver fiber-optical components that are both cost-efficient and individually adaptable.
With this idea, already in 2015, the founding team convinced the jury of “Start-up Impuls”, the largest start-up competition in Hannover. The competition was organized by hannoverimpuls, the business development agency of the city and region of Hannover. Afterwards, they also advised and supported the OptoKomp team in submitting the proposal for the EXIST research transfer.
The LZH scientists will use the funds of the program to make the technology ready for the market, develop a business plan and found their company in Hannover in 2017. Then, they will be the 18th spin-off company of the Laser Zentrum Hannover e.V..
