A passionate researcher and master of his discipline and a distinguished practitioner: This was Professor Hans-Peter Wiendahl. Nearly two and a half decades, he has headed the Institute of Production Systems and Logistics (IFA) of Leibniz Universität Hannover and co-founded the Institut für Integrierte Produktion Hannover (IPH) gGmbH.
Professor Wiendahl has "evolved logistics into a science and shaped factory planning", says his successor, Professor Peter Nyhuis. "Wiendahl has never viewed fundamental research as an end in itself, but has always kept an eye on its practical relevance." With his vision of application-oriented research, Wiendahl paved the way for the foundation of IPH in 1989 together with Professor Hans Kurt Tönshoff and Professor Eckart Doege.
During his career, Wiendahl authored 15 books on factory planning and production technology. In addition, he was an active member of various scientific associations, for example, the College International pour la Recherche en Productique (CIRP).
