The event will be moderated by Professor Dr.-Ing. Hans-Josef Endres, head of the Institute of Plastics and Circular Economy (IKK) at Leibniz University Hannover.
Lectures and exhibition
In eight lectures, plastics experts will talk about new recycling methods and innovative reuse, among other topics. Professor Endres will present forward-looking material approaches – from lightweight construction to bioplastics and biocomposites to recyclates. Dr. Ina-Maria Becker will explain why it is essential for the circular economy to think about subsequent recycling as early as the product development stage. In addition to the technical presentations, there will be an accompanying exhibition.
DIN for recycling management
Benjamin Hein, Head of Business Development Circular Economy of the German Institute for Standardization (DIN) and Christian Schiller, Co-Founder & CEO of cirplus GmbH, a Hamburg-based start-up that has built an online marketplace for plastic waste and recyclates, will discuss standards for the plastics circular economy. Cirplus initiated DIN SPEC 91446 for the recycling of plastics. The DIN SPEC is intended to set standards for the clear classification of plastic waste, minimum qualities, labeling requirements and handling processes. The consortium currently developing the DIN SPEC consists of 16 representatives from the value chain and the scientific community under the leadership of Professor Endres. The adoption of the DIN SPEC is planned for October 2021.
