Heinen motivates future engineers by pointing out the financial advantages going along with a sustainable management of energy and materials. “According to the German Agency for Material Efficiency (demea), saving 20 percent of the material currently used in Germany by improving the efficiency would equal the monetary value of about one hundred billion euros.”
Companies are offered a one-day seminar on the fundamentals of “Sustainable Manufacturing”, dealing with similar subjects as the students of Leibniz Universität Hannover: What are today’s frame conditions? Why is sustainability so important? At which point can we start when dealing with production, product design, sales, purchasing, and strategic objectives? The seminar is completed by practical examples and case studies, further developing the ideas presented throughout the seminar.
Sustainability is also the topic of the video clip “Now for Later”, presented in German language on the website of the Hannover “Science Initiative”: http://wissen.hannover.de/Einrichtungen/Leibniz-Universität-Hannover/Jetzt-für-Später
