The AiF’s core activity is the so-called Industrial Collective Research (IGF), supporting about 1,400 projects every year. The most promising project wins the Otto von Guericke Award. This year, the prize was given to a research team of Leibniz Universität Hannover, consisting of Masood Jalanesh, Dr Sven Hübner and Professor Dr Bernd-Arno Behrens of the Institute of Forming Technology and Machines (IFUM).
The researchers developed a single-step tool system enabling splash-free welding during deep drawing. The novel technology is independent from the type of press and applicable in a variety of industrial sectors. It enables companies to save process steps and reduce production costs. The winner of the Otto von Guericke Award was announced on Wednesday, 6 December 2017.
