Since March, Professor Dr Matthias Schmidt is appointed full professor at Leuphana Universität in Lüneburg. He started his career in Hannover: After his graduation from Leibniz Universität Hannover in Industrial Engineering, Schmidt stayed at the university to work as a research associate with the Institute of Production Systems and Logistics. His first milestone on his way to professorship was Schmidt’s excellent doctoral thesis on the modelling of logistic processes in production submitted in 2010.
Despite taking over a job in industry, he continued his work at IFA headed by Professor Dr Nyhuis – as the Manager for Research and Industry. In cooperation with the IFA staff member Philipp Schäfers, Schmidt developed the Hanoverian supply chain model (short: HaLiMo), which is the basis of his habilitation thesis on the model-based parameterization of production planning and control, accepted on 6 February 2018.
