LZH | With laser beam-submerged arc hybrid welding, the Laser Zentrum Hannover e. V. (LZH) and the Fraunhofer Institute for Machine Tools and Forming Technology IWU have succeeded in joining duplex steel in sheet thicknesses of up to 30 mm quickly and reliably.

IPH | LZH | How can additively manufactured components be laser welded? Their layered structure makes the welding process more complicated than for conventionally produced parts. IPH and LZH are jointly researching how components can nevertheless be joined in a quality-assured manner.

IMPT | The Institute of Micro Production Technology (IMPT) is currently working on the development of batch-produced, flexible micro-grinding tools for the finishing of metallic surfaces, for example copper or copper oxide surfaces.

match | If extremely hot components of varying geometries are gripped with just one handling system, considerable technical challenges arise. The Institute of Assembly Technology (match) of Leibniz University Hannover develops high-temperature grippers.

IFA | Artificial intelligence (AI) can enable predictions of delivery times and in this way improve the planning of engine maintenance. The Institute of Production Systems and Logistics (IFA) and MTU Maintenance Hannover GmbH are researching this topic.

IFW | Component marking does not have to be complex and expensive. In machined components, the surface is as unique as a fingerprint – and thus offers the possibility of marker-free identification and reliable traceability.

IFUM | Forging processes are subject to significant fluctuations, resulting in extremely varying tool service lives. A mobile measuring concept is being developed at IFUM to record critical process parameters and build up a deeper understanding of the process.

IW | How can the forming behavior of promising but limited-formability engineering materials be improved? At the Institute of Materials Science (IW), research is being conducted into the so-called electroplastic effect: current pulses are intended to facilitate the plastic deformation of magnesium alloys.

ITA | During longer-lasting space missions, damaged components can be repaired and remanufactured in microgravity with the help of laser metal deposition. Scientists from Hannover and Magdeburg are jointly pursuing this research goal.
